NO THANKS, I CAN DO IT
2024Performance
50min
The performance works with gender stereotypes, based on the prejudice of women as fragile and weak. The hand extended by the man to help the woman down a step, the offer to carry her backpack: these are attitudes inscribed in social rules (apparently harmless and even generous) that contribute to a painting of the feminine that is associated with incapacity and dependence. In a gesture of self-empowerment and manifestation of strength, “no thanks, I can do it” works as a commentary on the diminution of the feminine in relation to the masculine in terms of their physical abilities, as well as the social structuring of labour based on gender norm.
