WOUND THAT HURTS AND WOUND THAT IS NOT FELT

2022

Performance, 10:00
Drawing, dry point on acrylic paint and plaster over wood
Presented at the exhibition We shall go to the future at ZET Gallery  (Braga, Portugal)

It echoes, already without autocue, in our collective consciousness that love is blind, that it is death, that the tear is its smile;¹ that it is a wound that hurts and a wound that is not felt.² Survival instinct and rejection to pain do not seem to apply when love is the cause. Dopamine and oxytocin might numb the skin, but the mind does not heal. Through the affective and effective encounter between body and matter in a performance, “Wound that hurts” and “Wound that is not felt” reflect on the addicting nature of love, and figure human’s capacity to leave a mark. In a live performance where the body comes, marks, and leaves, all that remains are the traces of its caresses, engraved in space and on memory.

¹ From Portuguese proverbs on love.
² From the classical poem “Love is a fire that burns unseen” by Luís de Camões.
